Enjoy a morning learning about and stewarding the special habitats of the San Diego River Mouth! This event will include rotations so you can enjoy all the site has to offer, including: -Document the biodiversity of the beautiful San Diego Estuary as part of the City Nature Challenge! The City Nature Challenge is a global event where cities around the world compete to document as many species as possible in their urban areas. During this event, you'll learn how to collect essential species information by documenting plants and animals using the iNaturalist app on your smartphone. Your data collection will make a big difference by contributing to local and statewide conservation efforts. -Take a tour and guided nature walk led by our knowledgeable docents. -Finally, pitch in to help protect this rare habitat by removing invasive, non-native plants, repairing the protective sand fence, and removing trash. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the event: -Bring one smartphone or camera per group to participate in the iNaturalist activity -Familiarize yourself with the iNaturalist app: Watch this video -Check-In: 7:45 AM, meet on the grass between the parking lot, the San Diego River Trail, and Ocean Villa Inn -Attire: Long pants are recommended and closed-toe shoes are required -Other Items to Bring: reusable water bottle, hat, other forms of sun protection -Weather: Light rain will not cancel the event -For safety reasons, no pets are allowed at this event -There are restroom facilities at this location -Family friendly (youth 4 and over with supervision, 14 and over with adult signature)
